Happy New Year!
2009 is coming to an end, so is the semester break. One month of holiday seems to have past so quickly.
Right after my exams, I had to attend the Sunburst Youth Camp 2009 organised by STEP. Similar to the previous year, the friendships formed and experiences gained were invaluable.
With participants from Cambodia at the airport
Photos with our Chaperone, Abel and ACES.
Campfire Night! Organised by the ACES :)
Coach C - Group 5 and 6 ACESOn the 16th, we went out for shopping and walk along Orchard. Nice Christmas decorations, too bad it was raining, making it not so nice to walk. But it was enjoyable anyway. Photos in a separate post :)
I took a plane for the first time to go back to Malaysia on the 20th of December2009. It was really exciting except for the continuous delay in the flight. Attended Michelle's 21st Birthday Party and manage to catch up with my friends whom some I last met 4 years ago. Spend the rest of the time with my family, going out, visiting people and eat lots of good food.
Came back to Singapore in the 27th of December. Met up with our new RAD and discuss the activities for the coming semester. We had a mini Christmas treat by Dr. Gerald too.
Visited Bo Chao's house and his mummy cooked yummy duck + pork ribs noodles. Nice Nice. She's really a good cook.
It's New Year eve. So many things happened in 2009.
Hope you have a Happy New Year and a better 2010!

Countdown
3 more days left before my first paper. Stress. A lot more to study and the weather isn't helping, I just feel like sleeping all afternoon. Help!!!
Daily Horoscope
Fire Rabbit - At work, don't fear changes, they'll be beneficial to you. You'll tend to indulge in food excesses, and your stomach will very likely have to pay for the consequences; you'll avoid a lot of troubles by following a small diet. On the heart's side, you'll be at crossroads but you'll be able to choose the right direction. Beware of excessive spendings that you'll have a hard time resisting! This time, you'll sort out your relations so as to retain only the surest ones.
Reading week is almost halfway gone. Tomorrow will be R3 second Destress session, must remember to go and buy donuts. On Thursday we will be having RA briefing and Saturday I will be heading to Temasek Holdings to check out the updates on our camp. Not much time left for me to study yet I just feel so unmotivated. We just completed our MiniProject after more than a month working on it. Irregular meals due to project will finally come to an end, at least for this semester. The construction outside my window is also finally over. Peace! Hope I will be more hardworking and motivated for the remaining few days or else I will be in deep trouble. CAs weren't very well done so need to do well for finals!
Mungkin Nanti
Sahaja ku berkata mungkin yang terakhir kalinya
Sudahlah lepaskan semua kuyakin inilah waktunya
Mungkin saja kau bukan yang dulu lagi
Mungkin saja rasa itu telah pergi
Dan mungkin bila nanti kita kan bertemu lagi
Satu pintaku jangan kau cuba tanyakan kembali
Satu pintaku jangan kau cuba tanyakan kembali
Rasa yang kutinggal mati
Seperti hari kemarin saat semua disini
Dan mungkin bila nanti kita kan bertemu lagi
Satu pintaku jangan kau cuba tanyakan kembali
Rasa yang kutinggal mati
Seperti hari kelmarin saat semua di sini
Tak usah kau tanya kembali
Simpan untukmu sendiri
Semua sesal kau cari
Semua rasa yang kau beri
Belaian Jiwa
Seindah tiada lagi kau ku ingatkan
Sayang kau hilang
Menanti biar sampai akhir hayat ku di dunia ini
Kau tahu bertapa ku sayang padamu
Hanya bidadari sebagai ganti
Hanya takdir menentukan ia
Oh belaian jiwa
Oh angin, sampaikan lagu ku padanya
yang sedih pilu
Terimalah lagu ku jadi teman hidup mu
Untuk selamanya
Kau tahu bertapa ku sayang padamu
Hanya bidadari sebagai ganti
Hanya takdir
Menentukan ia
Oh belaian jiwa

Finance Last Lecture
This last lecture is one of the toughest I ever had so far. It was about Options. I wish I had the option not to study this chapter :)
I don't really understand what was going on during the lecture. So confusing. Put options, call options, buy, sell...arrgh...anyway, Dr Er gave us lots of chocolates today for helping him to complete the survey on MyFinanceLab. I've only used it for 1 or 2 times, so couldn't really give a good representation of the effectiveness of that programme.

小气
That's how I'm feeling today. I have no idea why I felt that way. I just felt a bit abandoned and want to throw tantrum. Maybe it was a wrong idea to be there in the first place. I was angry with myself. Why am I putting myself through this? I was asking myself, why was I there in the first place? But I can't find an answer to it because I just want to be there.
I hope you will ask if I was bored. I hope you will ask if I needed anything. Although your brother did, I wish it was you who asked me. I didn't need you to be there all the time. I just want you to feel my presence, occasionally checking on me. I hope that you realised it earlier, not when I said I want to leave.
Sorry. I made you wait even longer before. I know I was wrong. It was for official matters. I just want to vent my frustration. Please ignore me.
Hungry...
Hungry now. Today's lab was so much longer than expected. I thought we could finish everything by 4pm but we ended up going back at 6.30pm. No more nice food in the canteen :(
We did electrophoresis today. It's the first time I'm casting a 1mm gel. So thin!!! After a few touch and transferring it breaks. And it's quite a long process just to get 4 mini pieces of gel. Haha..lots of waiting time in between to chat with our TA.
Finance Quiz 2 is over. My summaries didn't work very well this time. I think I missed out too many things. Have to revise it before Quiz 3.
We might be going to Science Centre this weekend! There's exhibit on Body World. Sounds quite interesting for a life science student. Haha..but I think I will end up going there to play more than learn:)
Life is a Highway
There's one day here and the next day gone
Sometimes you bend, sometimes you stand
Sometimes you turn your back to the wind
There's a world outside every darkened door
Where Blues won't haunt you anymore
For the brave are free and lovers soar
Come ride with me to the distant shore
We won't hesitate
To break down the guarding gate
There's not much time left today, yeay
Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long
If you're going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long
Through all these cities and all these towns
It's in my blood and it's all around
I love now like I loved you then
This is the road and these are the hands
From Mozambique to those Memphis nights
The Khyber Pass to Vancouver's lights
They knock me down
And back up again
You're in my blood
I'm not a lonely man
There's no load I can't hold
The road's so rough this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in
Just tell 'em we're survivors
Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long
If your going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long
Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, yeah
Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long (mmmm yeah)
If your going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long
There was a distance between you and I
(between you and I)
A misunderstanding once
But now, we look it in the eye
Ooooo...Yeah!
There ain't no load that I can't hold
The road's so rough this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in
Just tell 'em we're survivors
Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long (all night long, yeah hey)
If your going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long
Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long
If your going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long
Life is a highway, I wanna ride it
All night long
If your going my way, I wanna drive it
All night long
Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, yeah

Module 1: Introduction to Cycling
PASSED!!!
Module Info:
Date: 24th September 2009
Time: 10.50am
Venue: East Coast Park
Equipment: Hot Red Ferrari!
Despite a rainy Thursday morning, Fui San decided to complete Module 1: Introduction to Cycling with the help of Bo Chao (Dear). They were lucky enough that the rain stopped when they arrive at the training ground.
Of course, she was super happy. What a nice way to enjoy recess week. But she better get back to studying if she wants to score well for her other 7 modules.
Back to Work
I went back to lab today to finish the unfinished:P I totally overestimate myself. I thought I would be able to complete everything by 12pm but I was not even halfway done. So in the end, I stayed till 4pm (NOW!)
Today's lab was rather messy. I forgotten all the protocol so had to read my logbook again. Luckily I still manage to figure out what I need to do :P
As a result, I didn't manage to join the rest for the belated birthday celebration. Sorry!
I'm still contemplating whether to go lab tomorrow. Schedule is rather tight. Still have a lot more to study for mid-terms. Plus, I want to go out and enjoy one of these days!
Exhausted.
Tears falling down my cheek,
What's happening to me?
I used to be so strong,
But lately I feel so weak.
All the stress brings me down,
It gives me no choice,
I can't speak my mind,
I just can't find my voice.
The smile I used to have,
It's hid behind,
The other part of me,
The person I pretend to be,
So you don't see my tears,
I fight all my fears,
I can't show emotion,
So I store it all inside,
But it builds up,
I breakdown,
I need to put the stress off to the side,
So that I will feel better inside.
Ought to be whack!
Very upset over my continuous assessment. I hope I had done better or rather put more effort into it. I'm starting to have phobia of studying. Every time when I open my book I'm scared of what I need to know. There seems to be endless amount of things I have to read and understand and apply. Tutorials are also piling up. I've got to finish them within this week. The week that I dread the most is finally here - recess week. I don't enjoy recess week because everyone will think that we are super free and give us lots of work to do which in fact, can be 2-3 times more than usual.
I've got to stop giving myself excuses and work extra hard this semester. No excuse for under performing. This is what I decide to do and I have to face the consequences. No matter how many people sympathize with you, how people encourage you, at the end of the day, you are the one that's going to sit for the exam, you are the one that's going to accept the results. So work hard and stop wasting time.
I've got a new mouse! Happy! Happy!
Quizzes
I will be having 2 more quizzes this week. Not sure if I'm lucky or not, both quizzes will be full MCQs. Haha..that also mean that I need to know all the small small details in order not to be tricked by the questions. Stress stress...faster go study!
Quoth The Banker, "Watch Cash Flow"
Once upon a midnight dreary as I pondered weak and weary
Over many a quaint and curious volume of accounting lore,
Seeking gimmicks (without scruple) to squeeze through
some new tax loophole,
Suddenly I heard a knock upon my door,
Only this, and nothing more.
Then I felt a queasy tingling and I heard the cash a-jingling
As a fearsome banker entered whom I'd often seen before.
His face was money-green and in his eyes there could be seen
Dollar-signs that seemed to glitter as he reckoned up the score.
"Cash flow," the banker said, and nothing more.
I had always thought it fine to show a jet black bottom line.
But the banker sounded a resounding, "No.
Your receivables are high, mounting upward toward the sky;
Write-offs loom. What matters is cash flow."
He repeated, "Watch cash flow."
The I tried to tell the story of our lovely inventory
Which, though large, is full of most delightful stuff.
But the banker saw its growth, and with a mighty oath
He waved his arms and shouted, "Stop! Enough!
Pay the interest, and don't give me any guff!"
Next I looked for non cash items which could add ad infinitum
To replace the ever-outward flow of cash,
But to keep my statement black I'd held depreciation back,
And my banker said that I'd done something rash.
He quivered, and his teeth began to gnash.
When I asked him for a loan, he responded, with a groan,
That the interest rate would be just prime plus eight,
And to guarantee my purity he'd insist on some security-
All my assets plus the scalp upon my pate.
Only this, a standard rate.
Though my bottom line is black, I am flat upon my back,
My cash flows out and customers pay slow.
The growth of my receivables is almost unbelievable:
The result is certain-unremitting woe!
And I hear the banker utter an ominous low mutter,
"Watch cash flow."
Biochemistry CA1
We'll be having our first CA1 for the year :S Not very exciting about it. I'm only halfway through my revision. There's so much to read within a short period of time. We have already completed our syllabus by now so everything is going to be tested for this test. That's bad! Because I don't think I will have enough time to finish studying.
Last week was our Accounting presentation. Everything went well and I like my group. They are so nice to hang out with. Hehe..that makes our tutorial lesson so much more interesting. We went to McDonalds for ice-cream after our presentation. Our tutor will always end the lesson one hour before the time so that leaves us with a very long break before our next lesson. Maybe we should start asking more question :P
I have been only learning about introduction during Bioinformatics lectures so far. As Jin Rong mentioned, no wonder the module is called Introduction to Bioinformatics. Haha..hopefully the next lecturer will be better. We are most of the time late for the lecture and we just sat down for half an hour, the lecture is over! Hope we will get clearer explanations and the lecturer don't talk so fast. Blek..he sounds like he running out of breathe every lecture.
This semester I've been late many many times for many many lessons. I don't like the 8am lesson especially when the tutor upload the lecture notes super late and have to rush to print them before going for lesson. I'm also late for my finance tutorial! That's because our Stats tutor don't end 15 minutes earlier for us to travel. I was late for 20 minutes the first time and 15 minutes last week. Not bad! I've got improvement. Blek..I think that's because I didn't need to wait for bus:S It's always so rush! I wish I can change to another tutorial slot. But it's too late. We've already had 2 weeks of lesson plus I think my tutor is quite good. Anyway, if I don't have practical on Thursday, I can choose to go for her later slot. One hour later so that I won't miss so much every lesson:P
I better study hard!
I'm in Year 2!
Yea! I have completed one year of university studies and the new semester had begun a week ago. I have a very packed schedule this semester. I'm still trying to cope with 7 modules (28MC). I shall try it for another week to see if I can do it, if not I will need to drop one of it. The first few weeks of school generally a bit messy especially for me:S Still trying to get back to the studying mood after such a long break, juggling between CCAs and lessons, bidding for modules, etc. I wasn't very lucky in bidding this time around but my appeal was approved. That's how I ended up with so many modules.
I look forward to a busy and enjoyable time this year :)
End of Internship!?
My internship is officially over! Yay...We had lunch together at Earle Swensen's. Throughout these 3 months, I have really learned a lot of new things. It's truly an enjoyable experience although there are days where I just sit in the lab and not doing anything. But...that's not the end, I will still go back during the semester to continue on my project. Hopefully I can complete the project as soon as possible:)
We also had our project presentation on Thursday. Everything went smoothly..my prof even helped me to answer some questions, maybe because I just finished Year 1 and have a lot more to learn? Anyway, new semester is starting and we've got bidding to do. As always, I'm no luck in bidding. I did not manage to secure the modules that I wanted to take this semester. I think I will have to look out for back-up plans now. :(
Last weekend was an enjoyable day too. Visited Haw Par Villa with Joyce. I just learned that 'Haw' actually refers to the tiger and 'Par' refers to the leopard and Haw and Par are the names of the brothers who popularised Tiger Balm:)
Think before you ACT
So many things had happened recently to the extent that I'm not sure whether what I'm going through is worth it. I could have just gone home during this holidays, not doing my internship, not becoming a resident assistant and not having to help some people to be their messenger.
I don't really mind helping people as long as it is within my means but can't they be more polite when asking for help. It's you that want my help yet you are asking me as though I'm the one that wants your help. I don't like being 'shouted' (I can't think of a suitable word, maybe it's just the tone that you are using) at especially you are asking for help. I have no obligation to do what you asked me to. It's not even my job to do it.
Someone came back to bug me again asking for some ridiculous 'help', but he will never be able to do that again. Thank you for helping me to get rid of him. I'm guilty for not telling when it first occurred. I was thinking that it would not have such a great impact. But now I realise how serious the problem can be after putting some thought into it. I'm really really sorry about it. I might need some time to get over with it.
I'm also missing home. I haven't gone back for more than half a year, the last time being Chinese New Year which I was back for just 2-3 days and about 2 weeks in December. And I foresee myself not being able to go back for holidays so soon. Being a resident assistant means that we are required to be in campus on certain days and remain contactable and we are only entitled to 10 days of leave per semester. I will need to use about 7 days for my camp in December and will that mean that I will only have 3 days left to go home??? Mummy said it's okay since she can come and visit me whenever she thinks it's convenient. But I think the feeling will not quite be the same? Dunno :S Maybe I will feel much better when the term starts. I'm just too free these few days.
I'm also starting to get bored with my work. It's been less than 3 months and I'm already bored of it. I wonder how am I going to survive in the future. I guess what my friend said is true. Why do we need to work so hard when at the end of the day, we will not have anything? What's the purpose of life then? I have yet to find out :S I'm looking forward to some 'real' holiday. I'm tired of having to wake up so early in the morning, going to the lab and not having anything to do. If this is really what a researcher does, I really have to reconsider.
And I totally forgotten about our welcome fest event yesterday. Really sorry to the committee. I will do better next time. As for the meeting, I really didn't mean to forget about it. It totally slipped my mind.
I know in the past few weeks I've hurt someone really badly and not knowing how to make up for it. Even need the person to tell me what to do. Really disappointed in myself.
In the Lab
I'm trying to finish 2 days work in one day and now I ended up having to work over time :S Haha..but nevermind la..I look forward to a slack day tomorrow considering that I won't have much to do (hopefully). I'm currently doing 2 experiments at the same time. There are very similar to the extent that I got them mixed up sometimes.
I'm sorry for all the trouble and misunderstanding. Hope to get over them soon.
Lab Dinner at Fusionopolis
Our whole lab went for dinner together at Fusionopolis as a farewell for the Honours Students. It's the first time that we are all having a meal together..hehe..we don't usually eat lunch with our prof.
I ordered a cheese baked rice with creamy mango as the sauce and sausage, salmon and chicken as the fillings. Oh, we had free creamy corn soup too..the person brought it to us and told us it's on the house. Haha..so nice. We also have Ice Lemon Tea and Chocolate Chip Mint Ice Cream as dessert for taking the Student's Meal. So it's quite worth it considering that we were super full that we are lazy to walk after eating. Haha..my mentor's recommendation not bad :)
After eating, we decided to take group photos. Took one at the front of the escalator. They have quite a nice roof-like structure. And we also took another one as we are coming down from the escalator. I think that one was quite cool. Everyone was lining up to go down the escalator. The effect nice.
It was really a fun day-out together. And we saw an injured pigeon on the way back. Tried to help it but it was quite terrified. In the end, it flew across the road.
Hmm...but I did something quite silly and I regret doing. Luckily I'm forgiven (I think) :)
2nd time in a month?
I must learn to be more patient, understanding and less demanding!
Reminder to self: You can't always expect people to think like you and have things going the way you want it
Trip to St. John's Island
We had our 'lab excursion' to St. John's Island. I was quite excited about it coz I haven't been there before but our professor told us that there's not food there so we need to pack our own lunch :S
We met at our supervisor's condo at 7.15am before taking a cab to Marina South Pier to board the boat. The journey was slightly less than an hour on the boat. We arrived at St. John's Island at approximately 9am, exchanged for our pass and starts working :P
Some of the fishes are really huge weighing more than 7kg. I was scared by one of the fish while we are trying to get samples from it suddenly it's awake and jump! Arr...so scary lor..lucky I manage to run fast enough and my prof took care of it after that. We took the samples we needed and they cleaned the fish to bring them home for dinner. They said it taste good.
Precious...

Breaking Point
Be reasonable. There's a limit to how much humans can tolerate.
We only start to appreciate things when we no longer have them. It's too late to regret.
Everyone is different in their own way. Do not expect people to know what you are thinking.
Trust and be truth to one another. There shouldn't be any motives in our actions.
We have our limitations and weaknesses. Be ready to accept them.
A week full of UPs and DOWNs
I realise that the Singapore Education System do place a great emphasis on exams and I'm feeling it right now. Very disappointed. Our semester 2 results were out, many were glad they did better this semester but some are still very disappointed with their results for falling below expectations. I'm not sure what is expected of me this time around. But I have decided not to exercise the S/U option and see if it's good enough. Hopefully I won't regret my decision.
A little update from what I have been doing. My internship experiment shows promising results so far. Hope the sequencing results will not mess everything up and I have to repeat the whole experiment again. I really enjoyed working with my mentor. She's very kind and helpful. Although she's busy with her own experiment, she will definitely take time to make sure I understand and can cope with what I'm doing.
I went to play at the West Coast Park playground on Thursday. So fun. I think I didn't enjoy enough as a kid. Haha.. must make up for it now:P
Friday was really disappointing and sad day. I didn't expect myself to be so upset. But thanks for the company.
Anyway, Saturday's "swimming lesson" was fun. Yippee...I'm 'learning' how to swim. :P
We will also be preparing for the PGPR Welcome Festival the coming month. Will be having our general meeting soon but we are already starting to do some of the work now, like designing the guidebook. I'm looking forward to working with the RAs in the coming semester. I guess it will be very fun and exciting.
I went for the Matriculation Fair PB Briefing. It's really troublesome to be representing two clubs at the same time, especially when they fall under different groups. I guess it will be better if they are aware of what each other are doing rather than what they are doing alone. I wasted a lot of time queuing outside the LT because they direct me to the wrong queue. I even went to confirm with them 2 times that I'm in the correct queue. It started almost an hour late. Haha..rather inefficient I would say. They have also increase the price of the booths without getting consent from the PBs and only after everyone made the payment. I think it's not right for them to do so; they should have at least made the announcement once they have decided to increase the price. The reason they gave was because there's increase in cost of wiring. I was wondering if the wiring company can just increase the price after they have confirmed the price. That's not all, we were told to bring two extension cords one which must have at least 4 sockets and 5m long for one but they are only allocating us with 2 sockets each. They couldn't really justify the reason why we need to bring 2, only saying that in case we don't have enough :S So not convincing I would say.
Okie I think I'm being super critical to them. Haha..Just don't like the way they work. But whatever it is, they have my support coz this is not a small event to handle. There bound to be people who are unhappy about the arrangements. And I guess they have their share of problems to handle. So will try my best to give them my full cooperation although it may seem contradictory.
Next week, I will be shifting to another room again. Haih..so troublesome and I think it's going to be super tiring. Can't imagine my small small room and store so many things inside. Hehe..need to dispose and bring home some of my things. I'm like always bringing things here and nothing back home.
We will also be trying to organise the Singapore National Othello Championship in NUS this holidays. Hopefully the proposal will be approved fast:P Then can start working on it. Don't want everything to clash.
To my dear friend
Before the clock stirkes twelve,
let me take the opportunity to let you know that
you have grown a year more
Happy 21st Birthday, Evelyn Chin!!
Sending you brithday blessings
filled with love and peace and joy,
Wishing sweetest things happen right before your eyes!
Hugs hugs. Enjoy yourself and have a great day. Miss you lots:)
Treasure every moment as a student
It's not really fun to be working. I think I like being a student more. It's so much more fun and relaxing. I'm already one week into internship! Yippee! My mentor will teach me some new stuff tomorrow. I'm going to learn how to cut the electrophoresis gel and extract the DNA from it. I will also do cloning and sequencing. So excited...but it's quite tiring to go to work also. So little time left to sleep:(
Went for a meeting on standing committee updates with Yee Han, Feng Fu and E Yin (I think). Haha..cant remember her name. But it was just a short meeting. There's another one on 5th of June. So I foresee myself being very busy this holiday.
RA Training Part 2
I learned how to perform CPR and use the AED kit. Haha..so it's supposed to be quite safe being with me:P BUT I don't know how much I can remember from the course and since I tried it on a CPR Manikins I can't guarantee it to work on humans too. Haha..since they can't feel the pain. Blek...
One-Man CPR Guide
Early recognition and access.
- Check for chemical spill, exposed electrical wire, fallingitems, fire, leaked fuel and gas (basically check for danger :))
- Tap on the shoulder gently, shake te person and call out loudly "Hello! Hello! Are you OK?
- If no response : "You! Call 995 for ambulance. Go and get the AED here.
- Lay the patient lying flat facing up on firm, flat surface
- Perform "Head Tilt - Chin Lift". Check airway & remove any obvious foreign object.
- Maintain "Head Tilt - Chin Lift"
- 'Look, Listen, Feel' for signs of breathing, ie. chest rise, sound of breath & air flow.
- Give 2 breaths & watch chest rise concurrently
- Check for pulse with index and middle fingers pressing at the groove at the side of neck
- Observe for signs of circulation - coughing, consciousness, movement & breathing
- If no pulse: Maintain head tilt, locate hand position next to the sterna notch, place heel of other hand on top of the hand on the sternum
- Perform CPR: Interlace fingers of both hands & lift fingers off chest wall
- Straighten both elbows and lock them in position
- Position your shoulder directly over the patient's chest
- Use body weight to compress patients's chest by about 4-5cm
- Count loudly as you compress
- Perform at least 3 cycles of CPR
- Check pulse / sign of circulation for 10 seconds
- If negative, continue CPR and wait for arrival of AED and ambulance
- If patient is recovering, place patient into recovery position
RA Training Part 1
One week of internship is over and I'm moving on to the second week. I finally got started with my project. Quite excited about it although its a lot of repetitive work. I will have to troubleshoot many many times before getting the appropriate settings and combinations.
And we are also moving out from NUSSU Secretariat so last Thursday, we were there to pack up our things and clear the room. Found quite a lot of antiques in the room. Haha..I'm also supposed to move out from my room today but the management didn't record which room I'm supposed to move to and so the security guard who are there for the 24 hours check out don't know which is my allocated room. So I can't move yet!!! Argh, so frustrating...this is the only weekend left to shift so that means I will have to move them during the weekdays after work..the thought of it is tiring enough :S
We had our RA Training yesterday where I get to meet a lot of new friends. We had lots of fun playing the games and getting to know one another. The senior RAs were there to share their experience too. And I guess after our training, we are more geared up for the coming semester :P We also decided to have BBQ for the outgoing RAs some time in June and we had our first R3 meeting last night to plan for the upcoming activites. Today, our professors will be treating us to a restaurant to celebrate the end of another semester. Haha..I'm there to eat since I wasn't part of the team last semester :)
Internship Day 1&2
It's already my second day of internship at TLL. I haven't been doing much these two days.
Day 1
We met Yang Hong at about 9.30am to settle the administrative stuff and she brought us to our lab to meet with A/Prof Laszlo, our supervisor. My mentor's Hsiao Yuen. She's really nice and friendly. She brought us down to the store to collect some stationeries and also our lab coat. Then she showed us around the lab and brief us a bit on the safety rules and the position of equipments. After that, it's just sitting down at my table reading journals and thesis. But Hsiao Yuen asked me if I'm interested to see her doing transformation so I went to the lab with her:P I got to learn a bit about the equipment to use and some techniques to ensure measures are taken to minimised errors.
Day 2
It's super boring. My mentor went to Qian Hu to collect some samples so she was not in the whole morning. Therefore, there's nothing for me to do. She was quite busy after coming back so no time to really teach me. We went for a 2 hours lunch and seminar at the auditorium. I was super sleepy. Nearly fall asleep in the auditorium but because we were sitting at the first row right in front of the speaker, have to pretend I'm paying full attention and fight my sleepiness. So torturing to sit in for one hour and feeling sleepy plus the auditorium's like quite nice to sleep.
Look forward for tomorrow. I'll have to wait for Qifeng to pass me his thesis to read:P I hope there's something for me to do. Don't like sitting in the lab and staring the the flap catching flies:S
Post-Exam Activities
11.30am. Our exams are finally over! Yippee! We decided to head to somewhere further - Tampines! Visited the new Tampines One. Haha..it's definitely not comparable to shopping centres in KL.
We had lunch at Swensens'. There's a lunch 1-for-1 promotion. So the three of us went it and start ordering which one to be the free one. There's also the student promotion but it only starts at 2.30pm. So we took 2 sets of the 1-for-1 promotion. Making it a total of 4 dishes. Yummy!
We ordered salmon and tuna sandwich, caesar chicken salad, chicken baked rice and chicken mushroom pizza. Hmm, we didn't realised that we ordered mostly chicken. And the salad wasn't one of our choices either. But because we pay the same price for 4 dishes and for 3 dishes, we just add another salad:P
Sandwich..quite a challenging task to cut it up..haha..but eelin, u are expert in it:P
And we ate them all up. Too full that we have our dinner quite late.
The super giant salad bowl that I totally underestimated its size.
See how big the fork is:P
Attempting to eat with the giant utensils:P.
