Post-Exam
Having endured people moving out last week; kids screaming at the amphitheater; cleaners shouting across the corridor; My exams are finally over!
In order to avoid the same fate as last year, I've decided to go and confirm my vacation stay room and to my disappointment, the same thing happened again. Not only they didn't know what's Resident Assistant, there's no room allocated to me. They just kept questioning me why I didn't apply for vacation stay. On top of that, there's no proper queue system. They just choose who they wants to serve first. There was 2 people that overtook the queue, not because they want to but because they were told to do so. And finally after sitting there for almost 20 mins, two of the staffs did not know what to do and direct me to another person. Maybe they should brief the staff on the procedures.
I also heard that we are required to pay for the trolley rental. Not very sure about this but I hope that's not true. We are already forced to shift to another room so that they can earn more money by renting out the place for conference, it is just not right for they to make even more money from the students by asking them to pay for the trolley rental. Given only 4 hours time period to shift everything, having a trolley will definitely speed things up.
On the bright side, shifting around can make you throw all the unwanted things away. Sometimes, I don't even know there's so many things stuffed into my room until I have to pack them when shifting. Also, it's a good exercise for the lazy me :D
Going out for outing now..Packing? Wait till tomorrow.

Closure of DSC3202 Service Operations Mgmt C2 class on Tues 3-6pm in Semester 2 AY2010/11
From a module that has no exam to one with finals and accepting that I'll have 2 papers back to back after the changes. And after spending 6 hours in class, the class is closed and I'm forced to drop the module.
"We regret to inform you that the DSC3203 C2 class on Tuesdays 3-6pm will be closed due to low enrollment. We have examined various issues at length but due to university and school policies, we would have to merge the 2 (ie, C1 and C2) classes. We will automatically shift C2 students into the C1 class on Tuesdays 9-12pm if possible.
First Paper - LSM3212
MCQ paper but don't think it will be easy. I'm not in favour of true/false MCQs.
Time for Mid-terms

Holiday!!
Exams was over more than a week ago. I have been enjoying myself since then. Internship officially starts on Monday. No more playing around. Need to wake up early every morning, even earlier than I need to go for lesson. But I guess this new job will be exciting. The company offers contract R&D services to support early-stage drug target discovery and pre-clinical drug development in the pharmaceutical industry, with focus on anti-cancer therapy.
- Apply knowledge learnt in classes in industry lab
- Experience in translational research and industry R&D processes (vs academic)
- Appreciate startups as a mechanism of commercialization of science and technology
- Understanding and implementing the concepts of a contract R&D business
- Setting up the operations and administrative processes for a new lab and R&D company
- Experience and exposure in interactions with diverse partners in the R&D industry.

The semester so far...
Countdown
3 more days left before my first paper. Stress. A lot more to study and the weather isn't helping, I just feel like sleeping all afternoon. Help!!!
Ought to be whack!
Very upset over my continuous assessment. I hope I had done better or rather put more effort into it. I'm starting to have phobia of studying. Every time when I open my book I'm scared of what I need to know. There seems to be endless amount of things I have to read and understand and apply. Tutorials are also piling up. I've got to finish them within this week. The week that I dread the most is finally here - recess week. I don't enjoy recess week because everyone will think that we are super free and give us lots of work to do which in fact, can be 2-3 times more than usual.
I've got to stop giving myself excuses and work extra hard this semester. No excuse for under performing. This is what I decide to do and I have to face the consequences. No matter how many people sympathize with you, how people encourage you, at the end of the day, you are the one that's going to sit for the exam, you are the one that's going to accept the results. So work hard and stop wasting time.
I've got a new mouse! Happy! Happy!
Quizzes
I will be having 2 more quizzes this week. Not sure if I'm lucky or not, both quizzes will be full MCQs. Haha..that also mean that I need to know all the small small details in order not to be tricked by the questions. Stress stress...faster go study!
Biochemistry CA1
We'll be having our first CA1 for the year :S Not very exciting about it. I'm only halfway through my revision. There's so much to read within a short period of time. We have already completed our syllabus by now so everything is going to be tested for this test. That's bad! Because I don't think I will have enough time to finish studying.
Last week was our Accounting presentation. Everything went well and I like my group. They are so nice to hang out with. Hehe..that makes our tutorial lesson so much more interesting. We went to McDonalds for ice-cream after our presentation. Our tutor will always end the lesson one hour before the time so that leaves us with a very long break before our next lesson. Maybe we should start asking more question :P
I have been only learning about introduction during Bioinformatics lectures so far. As Jin Rong mentioned, no wonder the module is called Introduction to Bioinformatics. Haha..hopefully the next lecturer will be better. We are most of the time late for the lecture and we just sat down for half an hour, the lecture is over! Hope we will get clearer explanations and the lecturer don't talk so fast. Blek..he sounds like he running out of breathe every lecture.
This semester I've been late many many times for many many lessons. I don't like the 8am lesson especially when the tutor upload the lecture notes super late and have to rush to print them before going for lesson. I'm also late for my finance tutorial! That's because our Stats tutor don't end 15 minutes earlier for us to travel. I was late for 20 minutes the first time and 15 minutes last week. Not bad! I've got improvement. Blek..I think that's because I didn't need to wait for bus:S It's always so rush! I wish I can change to another tutorial slot. But it's too late. We've already had 2 weeks of lesson plus I think my tutor is quite good. Anyway, if I don't have practical on Thursday, I can choose to go for her later slot. One hour later so that I won't miss so much every lesson:P
I better study hard!
A week full of UPs and DOWNs
I realise that the Singapore Education System do place a great emphasis on exams and I'm feeling it right now. Very disappointed. Our semester 2 results were out, many were glad they did better this semester but some are still very disappointed with their results for falling below expectations. I'm not sure what is expected of me this time around. But I have decided not to exercise the S/U option and see if it's good enough. Hopefully I won't regret my decision.
A little update from what I have been doing. My internship experiment shows promising results so far. Hope the sequencing results will not mess everything up and I have to repeat the whole experiment again. I really enjoyed working with my mentor. She's very kind and helpful. Although she's busy with her own experiment, she will definitely take time to make sure I understand and can cope with what I'm doing.
I went to play at the West Coast Park playground on Thursday. So fun. I think I didn't enjoy enough as a kid. Haha.. must make up for it now:P
Friday was really disappointing and sad day. I didn't expect myself to be so upset. But thanks for the company.
Anyway, Saturday's "swimming lesson" was fun. Yippee...I'm 'learning' how to swim. :P
We will also be preparing for the PGPR Welcome Festival the coming month. Will be having our general meeting soon but we are already starting to do some of the work now, like designing the guidebook. I'm looking forward to working with the RAs in the coming semester. I guess it will be very fun and exciting.
I went for the Matriculation Fair PB Briefing. It's really troublesome to be representing two clubs at the same time, especially when they fall under different groups. I guess it will be better if they are aware of what each other are doing rather than what they are doing alone. I wasted a lot of time queuing outside the LT because they direct me to the wrong queue. I even went to confirm with them 2 times that I'm in the correct queue. It started almost an hour late. Haha..rather inefficient I would say. They have also increase the price of the booths without getting consent from the PBs and only after everyone made the payment. I think it's not right for them to do so; they should have at least made the announcement once they have decided to increase the price. The reason they gave was because there's increase in cost of wiring. I was wondering if the wiring company can just increase the price after they have confirmed the price. That's not all, we were told to bring two extension cords one which must have at least 4 sockets and 5m long for one but they are only allocating us with 2 sockets each. They couldn't really justify the reason why we need to bring 2, only saying that in case we don't have enough :S So not convincing I would say.
Okie I think I'm being super critical to them. Haha..Just don't like the way they work. But whatever it is, they have my support coz this is not a small event to handle. There bound to be people who are unhappy about the arrangements. And I guess they have their share of problems to handle. So will try my best to give them my full cooperation although it may seem contradictory.
Next week, I will be shifting to another room again. Haih..so troublesome and I think it's going to be super tiring. Can't imagine my small small room and store so many things inside. Hehe..need to dispose and bring home some of my things. I'm like always bringing things here and nothing back home.
We will also be trying to organise the Singapore National Othello Championship in NUS this holidays. Hopefully the proposal will be approved fast:P Then can start working on it. Don't want everything to clash.
Yay..Bye Bye Sem 2
I should be done with my exams this minute. :P Yay! I finally manage to struggle through all the 6 modules. Not sure if I will do the same for the next semester or not. Haha..slowly think la.. I got 3 months. Yippee...looking forward for my internship..lalala..can go play!!!
One more day..
Yay! One last day left.. I cant wait for tomorrow's paper to be over! Hehe..then I will have a long 3 months break from studying..YIPPEE!!!!
How do you think?!
If you think you dare not, you don't!
If you'd like to win, but you think you can't,
It's almost certain you won't.
For out in the world we find
Success begins with a fellow's will;
It's all in the state of mind!
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be sure of yourself
Before you'll ever win the prize.
To the stronger or faster man;
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the person who thinks he can!
I haven't really finished revising for all my subjects. Having so many open book exams is totally not good. So many things to read and understand because you won't really have much time to flip the pages and I doubt you can really find the answers but there's too much to read - because it's an open book exam, you are expected to be able to find the answers (although the tutor might not have teach).
So far, I manage to complete half of my biz law and half of accounting. Ha-ha..I always do things halfway, it's just too boring studying the same subject over and over again - need some change. Anyway, I hope I will complete revising for accounting today. Then can start of microeconomics real soon. This is the subject that I have least confidence in.
I was supposed to go down to the study room or library today but I woke up late and the weather isn't that bad today. I think it rained this morning. So when I woke up at 7am, it's very cooling, very nice to sleep and I crawl back into my bed. He-he..so yeap..I'm back in my room studying, with my bed tempting me to sleep once in awhile..well, I can't help it, the fan is there..Ha-ha..okay I'm just giving myself excuses.
I was in the library yesterday and it was super packed. I haven't really seen so many people in the library and study room before. Everyone's studying hard. I guess I have to also. :P
Can't wait for semester II to be over...
After our last practical at Changi Beach, today's the animal diversity practical in which our lecturer told us to be prepared mentally and physically. Haha..I hope I am. It's another 1 hour plus later.
This semester is getting busier than the previous one. Maybe because I'm taking more modules with assignments and group project. Just submitted my law mid-term paper. I redo it for 3 times so hopefully the final one is OK. This weekend we'll be having our second econs assignment. And our physics term paper is due the week after that. It's going to go on like this for the rest of the semester.
I totally agreed with what Eelin blog about. Uni life is only partially FUN. And I would say the fun comes from the friends around us. What I look forward to everyday is not attending the long boring lectures but rather the chance to meet up with friends during lunch time or maybe just a simple chat. And what's fun about doing projects? It's being able to know new friends and maintain them even after the projects are completed. I really don't know how long I can survive without them walking into my uni life. And definitely the competitiveness in people are not something that I enjoy. It's just putting more stress on each other.
We had our open house last weekend. I was quite disappointed that the photographers went missing. How can they not informed me if they are not able to make it or at least why did they gone uncontactable? I wished I didn't have to do the sports club duty then I can at least help them take some of the photographs which I did before starting my shift. But of course also thanks to people who are willing to help although I contacted them last minute. Really grateful for that.
And this week during the law lecture, our lecturer told us that she'll need to postpone the next lecture as she had to travel. I just don't understand how can she just postpone the lessons just like that. She should at least consider that we might be having another lesson during that time. Why did we need to bid for the lecture in the first place if there's no fix timing? OK I admit I don't really like this lecturer. I have a feeling that she doesn't even prepare for lessons. She's always going there every week and reading from the piece of paper. I even wonder if she prepared the slides on her own.
Another interesting thing that happened during this week's lecture is Mark and Jahabar trying to get "famous" on the web cast during our Physics lecture. Haha..it was during the lecturer's demonstration that they let out a loud "waaa". Super funny. But I told them later that it might not be captured on the web cast coz they usually don't take in the surrounding sound meaning they take it directly from the lecturer's mike. So we will not be able to hear them on the web cast. But we have yet to check it out. Haha..maybe I shall watch during the weekend to see if there's any:P
This Wednesday was the 'super critical' group's turn to present. They never failed to raised a question during every group's presentation and trying to point out people's "mistakes". But this time was their turn to make a major mistake. They used a totally not good example and making certain assumptions. So our tutor questioned their project examples. As always, they often do not admit they are wrong and thus trying to find their way out, given all sort of reasons for them choosing the "wrong" example. In the end, the tutor still thinks that the example is not a good one. Lesson for our group, make sure we chose examples that we can relate to our every day life and be specific to avoid being "killed". Haha..super exaggerating hor:P
Opportunity Cost - Leisure
Yay..the week is finally over. Hmm at least for academic week. I can't imagine myself having 1 assignment, 4 tutorials, 1 presentation and 1 CA all in the same week. Our assignment question was release last Sunday night! I thought she would release it in the morning at least I would have the whole afternoon to do:S Presentation question was also given during last week's tutorial. And of course tutorial questions are only release the week before. Hehe..so I'm not really considered procrastinator rite:P but sometimes I do felt quite lazy to do my tutorial.
Anyway, one week's over, 4 more tutorials next week (no tutorial for Physics..yay!) and another term test. I think this is going to continue all the way till the end of the semester. Do I regret taking so many modules? Actually no! I enjoyed every lesson (at least most). Haha..I like Practicals so that's the plus point for diversity. And I have great project mates and classmates for Managerial Econs. It's so fun going for tutorial although it's 9am in the morning because we will just wake each other up. But I don't like the tutors though. Haha..both of them:P I like Accounting lectures more and of course the tutorial is equally relaxing and fun. Our tutor is doesn't mind joking around with us. Stats lecturer's fun too but she go through the lecture quite slowly so sometimes it will be boring:S. Business law was a bit frustrating but again it's my group mates that made my day. Well done for our presentation although it wasn't really that good. We could have done better. And Physics used to be my favourite subject in secondary school. The questions are quite hard but I enjoy learning about them. Plus I have super hardworking and thoughtful group members.
Yup yup. As much as I don't like doing projects, I think projects are what bring us closer to our course mates. Even online discussion and simple e-mail asking how's the project going on, let us know that there's always someone the for us. Someone we can depend on, someone we can fall back on.
But life is always fair. We gain something, we will lose something in return. These few days made me realise that life is very realistic. We can't afford to live in fantasy, our own world, our own dreams. When you failed, you are out. No one is going to help you. This is a competitive society, when you are slow, that's it, you failed. But I just don't understand is winning really that important that we can neglect the people around us? Where is the loving society that I used to live in? Where are the people who cares? I'm so confused. Sometimes you won't even know who are true friends and who are those that are using you as a stepping stone towards success. How are we to judge them? We can't. All we can do it just treat them with sincerity and hopefully they will do the same.
I recently read an article that suggest banning students in school uniform from entering shopping malls. I thought it was just an idea but it's already happening in Singapore (if I'm not wrong, just one school :P). I remember back in Malaysia, once school's over, I will usually go straight home unless I've got co-curriculum activities in school. We don't really have the luxury to roam around shopping centres like those in Singapore.Furthermore, it's really inconvenient and there's not shopping malls around my place. Okay maybe one if you consider Wisma Thrifty as one. So that's the way things were all the way till I'm in Form 5. Daddy fetch me to school in the morning and take the bus/walk home with my sisters. But since I came here, I realise that most students do not go straight home after school. I came to realise that when I was teaching though coz I will usually head back to hostel after lessons. We can see many students in school uniform walking around the shopping centres.
Although I'm not a fan of going to shopping centre, I think the banning of students to enter shopping centres in school uniform is futile. Students do not go to shopping centres to waste time. I remember I will usually do my groceries after school. That will save me a trip to specially visit a supermarket to get the things I want. Wouldn't it be such a waste of time if I have to go change, then go out again? Well, I guess it doesn't really matter to me now since I no longer have any uniforms to wear. I actually missed having uniforms. It not only gives us a sense of identity but save us the trouble of thinking what to wear. Haha..I'm hopeless with clothing.
We'll be having our Main Committee meeting tonight. We haven't had one since the semester started. So it's time for us to keep each other updated of what's happening and what we had done or will do. I think it's a form of respect for the committee members if they are inform of the latest happening in the club. In fact, I think the members have to be informed too. Besides, having meeting regularly will keep us bonded together. If the committee members can't work with each other, how to you expect to get the respect and confidence from the members. So I'm glad we are all doing fine.
Sunday is going to be the standing committee photo shoot. I think it's going to be exciting and fun. We haven't really got our dress code yet but looking forward to it. Haha..we are going to be shoot by professional photographers. Cool....
I just love this month, it's super exciting with lots of happenings. Oh we had our NUS Reversi Open last week. I've got 8th. Not bad rite. Haha..I think there's about 20 people participating in it. And this week is the NUS Food Festival. So don't forget to vote for your favourite canteen stalls. Prize giving will be on the 20th of Feb. Not sure if I'll be attending. We are having 4 coverages in the same day if I'm not wrong - IES Committee Photo shoot, NUS Food Festival, National Sustainability Conference and OSA Volunteers Appreciation Night. And the last one is going to be a paid coverage! Haha..have to do well for it.
Okie I think my post is super random and messy. I just can't help it. A lot of things are going through my mind so I just type as it comes along. Time to prepare for practical. Arr..another CA!
Your friendship is
