End of Internship!?

My internship is officially over! Yay...We had lunch together at Earle Swensen's. Throughout these 3 months, I have really learned a lot of new things. It's truly an enjoyable experience although there are days where I just sit in the lab and not doing anything. But...that's not the end, I will still go back during the semester to continue on my project. Hopefully I can complete the project as soon as possible:)

Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory
We also had our project presentation on Thursday. Everything went smoothly..my prof even helped me to answer some questions, maybe because I just finished Year 1 and have a lot more to learn? Anyway, new semester is starting and we've got bidding to do. As always, I'm no luck in bidding. I did not manage to secure the modules that I wanted to take this semester. I think I will have to look out for back-up plans now. :(

Last weekend was an enjoyable day too. Visited Haw Par Villa with Joyce. I just learned that 'Haw' actually refers to the tiger and 'Par' refers to the leopard and Haw and Par are the names of the brothers who popularised Tiger Balm:)

Sumo wrestler with Tiger Balm! Haha..i think too small:P

This is the car the family owns. Looks so cute!!!
Tiger! I haven't seen the bottle of thing he holding before.
'Haw' the tiger! It's located at most of the entrances
'Par' the leopard. It's one pair:P
Many many more photos that we took. No time to upload all:P hehe..they are in facebook:) After almost 4 hours visit, we went to VivoCity to have our dinner at Terra Cafe:P Just opposite Swensen's.

Think before you ACT

So many things had happened recently to the extent that I'm not sure whether what I'm going through is worth it. I could have just gone home during this holidays, not doing my internship, not becoming a resident assistant and not having to help some people to be their messenger.

I don't really mind helping people as long as it is within my means but can't they be more polite when asking for help. It's you that want my help yet you are asking me as though I'm the one that wants your help. I don't like being 'shouted' (I can't think of a suitable word, maybe it's just the tone that you are using) at especially you are asking for help. I have no obligation to do what you asked me to. It's not even my job to do it.

Someone came back to bug me again asking for some ridiculous 'help', but he will never be able to do that again. Thank you for helping me to get rid of him. I'm guilty for not telling when it first occurred. I was thinking that it would not have such a great impact. But now I realise how serious the problem can be after putting some thought into it. I'm really really sorry about it. I might need some time to get over with it.

I'm also missing home. I haven't gone back for more than half a year, the last time being Chinese New Year which I was back for just 2-3 days and about 2 weeks in December. And I foresee myself not being able to go back for holidays so soon. Being a resident assistant means that we are required to be in campus on certain days and remain contactable and we are only entitled to 10 days of leave per semester. I will need to use about 7 days for my camp in December and will that mean that I will only have 3 days left to go home??? Mummy said it's okay since she can come and visit me whenever she thinks it's convenient. But I think the feeling will not quite be the same? Dunno :S Maybe I will feel much better when the term starts. I'm just too free these few days.

I'm also starting to get bored with my work. It's been less than 3 months and I'm already bored of it. I wonder how am I going to survive in the future. I guess what my friend said is true. Why do we need to work so hard when at the end of the day, we will not have anything? What's the purpose of life then? I have yet to find out :S I'm looking forward to some 'real' holiday. I'm tired of having to wake up so early in the morning, going to the lab and not having anything to do. If this is really what a researcher does, I really have to reconsider.

And I totally forgotten about our welcome fest event yesterday. Really sorry to the committee. I will do better next time. As for the meeting, I really didn't mean to forget about it. It totally slipped my mind.

I know in the past few weeks I've hurt someone really badly and not knowing how to make up for it. Even need the person to tell me what to do. Really disappointed in myself.

In the Lab

I'm trying to finish 2 days work in one day and now I ended up having to work over time :S Haha..but nevermind la..I look forward to a slack day tomorrow considering that I won't have much to do (hopefully). I'm currently doing 2 experiments at the same time. There are very similar to the extent that I got them mixed up sometimes.

I'm sorry for all the trouble and misunderstanding. Hope to get over them soon.

Lab Dinner at Fusionopolis

Our whole lab went for dinner together at Fusionopolis as a farewell for the Honours Students. It's the first time that we are all having a meal together..hehe..we don't usually eat lunch with our prof.

I ordered a cheese baked rice with creamy mango as the sauce and sausage, salmon and chicken as the fillings. Oh, we had free creamy corn soup too..the person brought it to us and told us it's on the house. Haha..so nice. We also have Ice Lemon Tea and Chocolate Chip Mint Ice Cream as dessert for taking the Student's Meal. So it's quite worth it considering that we were super full that we are lazy to walk after eating. Haha..my mentor's recommendation not bad :)

After eating, we decided to take group photos. Took one at the front of the escalator. They have quite a nice roof-like structure. And we also took another one as we are coming down from the escalator. I think that one was quite cool. Everyone was lining up to go down the escalator. The effect nice.

It was really a fun day-out together. And we saw an injured pigeon on the way back. Tried to help it but it was quite terrified. In the end, it flew across the road.

Hmm...but I did something quite silly and I regret doing. Luckily I'm forgiven (I think) :)

Trip to St. John's Island

We had our 'lab excursion' to St. John's Island. I was quite excited about it coz I haven't been there before but our professor told us that there's not food there so we need to pack our own lunch :S

We met at our supervisor's condo at 7.15am before taking a cab to Marina South Pier to board the boat. The journey was slightly less than an hour on the boat. We arrived at St. John's Island at approximately 9am, exchanged for our pass and starts working :P

Some of the fishes are really huge weighing more than 7kg. I was scared by one of the fish while we are trying to get samples from it suddenly it's awake and jump! Arr...so scary lor..lucky I manage to run fast enough and my prof took care of it after that. We took the samples we needed and they cleaned the fish to bring them home for dinner. They said it taste good.

Precious...

It's very depressing to lose something precious to you especially when you lose it due to your own carelessness. Try to keep oneself busy so you will not think so much about it or dwell over it. BUSY BUSY BUSY! Go find something to do and keep yourself occupied. Stop Thinking!

Breaking Point

Be reasonable. There's a limit to how much humans can tolerate.

We only start to appreciate things when we no longer have them. It's too late to regret.

Everyone is different in their own way. Do not expect people to know what you are thinking.

Trust and be truth to one another. There shouldn't be any motives in our actions.

We have our limitations and weaknesses. Be ready to accept them.

A week full of UPs and DOWNs

"Friendship is not about finding similarities, it is about respecting differences. You are not my friend coz you are like me, but because i accept you and respect you the way you are."

I realise that the Singapore Education System do place a great emphasis on exams and I'm feeling it right now. Very disappointed. Our semester 2 results were out, many were glad they did better this semester but some are still very disappointed with their results for falling below expectations. I'm not sure what is expected of me this time around. But I have decided not to exercise the S/U option and see if it's good enough. Hopefully I won't regret my decision.

A little update from what I have been doing. My internship experiment shows promising results so far. Hope the sequencing results will not mess everything up and I have to repeat the whole experiment again. I really enjoyed working with my mentor. She's very kind and helpful. Although she's busy with her own experiment, she will definitely take time to make sure I understand and can cope with what I'm doing.

I went to play at the West Coast Park playground on Thursday. So fun. I think I didn't enjoy enough as a kid. Haha.. must make up for it now:P

Friday was really disappointing and sad day. I didn't expect myself to be so upset. But thanks for the company.

Anyway, Saturday's "swimming lesson" was fun. Yippee...I'm 'learning' how to swim. :P

We will also be preparing for the PGPR Welcome Festival the coming month. Will be having our general meeting soon but we are already starting to do some of the work now, like designing the guidebook. I'm looking forward to working with the RAs in the coming semester. I guess it will be very fun and exciting.

I went for the Matriculation Fair PB Briefing. It's really troublesome to be representing two clubs at the same time, especially when they fall under different groups. I guess it will be better if they are aware of what each other are doing rather than what they are doing alone. I wasted a lot of time queuing outside the LT because they direct me to the wrong queue. I even went to confirm with them 2 times that I'm in the correct queue. It started almost an hour late. Haha..rather inefficient I would say. They have also increase the price of the booths without getting consent from the PBs and only after everyone made the payment. I think it's not right for them to do so; they should have at least made the announcement once they have decided to increase the price. The reason they gave was because there's increase in cost of wiring. I was wondering if the wiring company can just increase the price after they have confirmed the price. That's not all, we were told to bring two extension cords one which must have at least 4 sockets and 5m long for one but they are only allocating us with 2 sockets each. They couldn't really justify the reason why we need to bring 2, only saying that in case we don't have enough :S So not convincing I would say.

Okie I think I'm being super critical to them. Haha..Just don't like the way they work. But whatever it is, they have my support coz this is not a small event to handle. There bound to be people who are unhappy about the arrangements. And I guess they have their share of problems to handle. So will try my best to give them my full cooperation although it may seem contradictory.

Next week, I will be shifting to another room again. Haih..so troublesome and I think it's going to be super tiring. Can't imagine my small small room and store so many things inside. Hehe..need to dispose and bring home some of my things. I'm like always bringing things here and nothing back home.

We will also be trying to organise the Singapore National Othello Championship in NUS this holidays. Hopefully the proposal will be approved fast:P Then can start working on it. Don't want everything to clash.

菊花台 (Ju Hua Tai)

I think this song is so nice. Nicer when someone sings it to me :P And I know the meaning to the words. So happy!!!
It's from the show Curse of the Golden Flower. I don't really get what was happening in the show though. I just remembered that most of them died. Sad ending:S Someone did something very sweet and touching today. Thank you. :P

Treasure every moment as a student

It's not really fun to be working. I think I like being a student more. It's so much more fun and relaxing. I'm already one week into internship! Yippee! My mentor will teach me some new stuff tomorrow. I'm going to learn how to cut the electrophoresis gel and extract the DNA from it. I will also do cloning and sequencing. So excited...but it's quite tiring to go to work also. So little time left to sleep:(

Went for a meeting on standing committee updates with Yee Han, Feng Fu and E Yin (I think). Haha..cant remember her name. But it was just a short meeting. There's another one on 5th of June. So I foresee myself being very busy this holiday.
