AVAI Course

Attended the Audio Video Assessment Index course organised by CDTL today. It was held at the CIT Studio which was really well equipped. Really learnt a lot of things from there.

We also had the opportunity to put what we have to learnt into practice by producing a short video there.

Claypot Rice @ Geylang

Went for dinner with my course mates to celebrate Andrew’s birthday. They had ice-skating and bowling earlier in the afternoon but I’m just too tired from yesterday to join them.

Met them at Stadium around 6pm and head towards Aljunied to meet the rest before walking to the Claypot place. I’ve no idea how to go there again. Ha-ha I just follow Open-mouthed smile

Had the famous Claypot rice with a few other dishes like lotus root duck, prawn with beancurd, pumpkin prawn, fried beancurd skin, long beans, crab and a complementary soup.

Universal Studios Singapore

It was a rather last minute decision to go there today. We just decided that the night before. Was contemplating between Science Centre or USS but decided to go to USS instead since they are currently having 20% discount.

We had our breakfast as Harbour Front Centre and took the monorail to Sentosa.

There were altogether 7 main stops to visit.

Started with Lights, Camera, Action! Hosted by Steven Spielberg at New York. It was a rather interesting special effects. We then head to Sci-Fi City. Started with Accelerator (which is something like the spinning cup in Sunway Lagoon but just more mild) to get us warmed up for the more exciting roller coaster, Battlestar Galactica. Decided to go for the Human ride, which is supposedly less intense. But after going for that, I didn’t dare to try Cylon.

Break for lunch at The Lost World, where we had spaghetti and chicken fingers.
Went for the Shrek 4-D Adventure and Donkey LIVE at Far Far Away. Very fun and entertaining. Went back to Ancient Egypt for Revenge of the Mummy. There was some attractions that we missed or didn’t dare to try Smile with tongue out Maybe that gives us an excuse to go there again next time. Ha-ha..

Took many many photos. Super tiring but it was really fun Open-mouthed smile

Shifting…

It’s the time of the year again where we need to shift to our vacation stay room. Block 11 will be closed for conference so I was shifted to block 12.

Luckily for me, this time, my room is just located a few meters away i.e. at 12/6/O. I was planning to shift on Monday, but was just too lazy to pack and decided to get the key from the management office today and start shifting bit by bit.

Guess will be staying here for the next one monthWinking smile

IGC Outing

Started the day with karaoke session at Party World KTV located at Orchard. Of course, as in every outing, there are bound to be people that are late, thus, we waited for about 20 mins before making our way there.

First time going to karaoke in Singapore!!

IMG_2198

We spent about 2 hours there before heading to Marina Square for bowling and dinner.

BC was so proud of his strike video that he watch it over and over again..ha-ha…Rolling on the floor laughing

Left earlier as I needed to be back in PGP for RA Review.

Post-Exam

Having endured people moving out last week; kids screaming at the amphitheater; cleaners shouting across the corridor; My exams are finally over!

In order to avoid the same fate as last year, I've decided to go and confirm my vacation stay room and to my disappointment, the same thing happened again. Not only they didn't know what's Resident Assistant, there's no room allocated to me. They just kept questioning me why I didn't apply for vacation stay. On top of that, there's no proper queue system. They just choose who they wants to serve first. There was 2 people that overtook the queue, not because they want to but because they were told to do so. And finally after sitting there for almost 20 mins, two of the staffs did not know what to do and direct me to another person. Maybe they should brief the staff on the procedures.

I also heard that we are required to pay for the trolley rental. Not very sure about this but I hope that's not true. We are already forced to shift to another room so that they can earn more money by renting out the place for conference, it is just not right for they to make even more money from the students by asking them to pay for the trolley rental. Given only 4 hours time period to shift everything, having a trolley will definitely speed things up.

On the bright side, shifting around can make you throw all the unwanted things away. Sometimes, I don't even know there's so many things stuffed into my room until I have to pack them when shifting. Also, it's a good exercise for the lazy me :D

Going out for outing now..Packing? Wait till tomorrow.

Busy...

In the next two weeks before the end of the semester, I've got two assignments to complete, one poster presentation, one pop-quiz, and two continual assessment (one this coming Friday and another next Thursday).

I also need to prepare the info sheet for DSC3201 (one piece of A4 paper) which I haven't thought of what to include in it yet.

Exams will start on the 23rd April and end on the 5th of May. After that, I'll be going for a long deserving break :) But that's not until I shift out of my room (again!!).

Maintenance in PGPR

After repainting the walkway, repairing the water dispenser and the lift, there's more maintenance work coming up this month:

Planter Box below my block - 1st to 15th April 2011

External Facade & Window Cleaning - 7th April to 12th April 2011

Replacement of Energy Saving Lights - 12th April 2011
I applaud the efforts taken by the management to improve the living condition in PGPR. However, I will appreciate them more if they were not done so close to the exam period. I mean, vacation is just a month away, why not wait till then?

Pharmville

An event organised by the NUS Pharmaceutical Society where we get to learn about what pharmacists do and about our health in an enjoyable way.

There were 11 games booth set up at NUS Science Foyer, outside LT27.

The first game we tried was a computer golf game by an external company - Xepa. The goody bag is so cute. Nicer than the happy meal box..haha..

Some other games are:

1. Drug design and synthesis - Right seed, right soil

  • Research pharmacist
  • Use ball and stick model to create and modify drug compound
The drug we were told to design was an ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme) inhibitor, Enalapril (if I didn't remember wrongly)

2. Drug formulation - Barnadol
  • Formulation / Industrial Pharmacist
  • Mix and match activity to learn about different dosage forms
We were told to match the different types of panadol - those suitable for infants, kids, adults.

3. Good Manufacturing Practices - Drug harvesting plant
  • Industrial Pharmacist
  • Practice good hygiene in manufacturing to prepare a visually uncontaminated solution.
We need to prepare a pure NaCl solution with 1 teaspoon of salt and 50ml of water.

4. Patient-centered therapy - Jumble trouble
  • Hospital and Community Pharmacist
  • Learn how different therapies applies to similar disease states through jigsaw puzzle.
I think the one we need to solve was gastric pain. Quite simple, just 8 pieces of puzzle :D

5. Dispensing and drug information - Bee-zy pharmacy
  • Outpatient Pharmacist, Drug Information Pharmacist
  • Part 1: Competition to see who counts pills the fastest and most accurately
  • Part 2: Roll a toy car and learn more about vitamins and supplements.
I don't remember playing the second part but we manage to win the first prize for pills counting..yippee - $50 Capitaland voucher!

6. Compounding, quality control, labeling - The cornpounding pharmacy
  • Compounding Pharmacist
  • Make coloured capsules and learn how to check and label
It's quite difficult to close the capsules. But we still manage to complete it.

7. Patient safety - Pharmer's market
  • Dispensing Pharmacist
  • Sort white pills according to prescription
This is where we learn about the weird acronyms that doctors use.

8. Myths unearthed - Pharmyth
  • Drug Information Pharmacist
  • Read the posters around and answer 3 simple questions
One of them was the use of Vick Vapour rub on kids.

9. Health screening - Pharmville barn
  • Patient Care Pharmacist
  • Free basic health screening
  • Height, weight, blood pressure, body fat, blood glucose testing, anti-oxidant level testing
We didn't do any of these. We just answered some questions on the drugs usage and its main components.

10. Word NO Tobacco Day - 31st May
  • Health promotion
  • Learn about harmful effects of smoking and enquire about quitting smoking and counseling by a qualified Unity pharmacist
We just went there to get a bag tag and pen :D. Didn't need to do anything at this station.

At each booth, we get to earn a stamp to redeem prizes at the end.

FYP - Confirmed

I've finally decided on my FYP prof. It was a difficult decision but I hope I made the right  decision.

Today's supposed to be the released of SPM results. I wonder how my brother did? :D

For the final 3 weeks of the semester, I've got 2 take home assignment (25%), 2 continual assessment and 1 pop-quiz. I'm beginning to feel that 24hours a day is not enough. Need to work harder!!

Anyway, TPJC 25th Anniversary Homecoming Dinner will be held on the 28th of May 2011. There's a high possibility that I'll not be able to make it as I plan to go back to Malaysia at that time. Wonder if any of my friends will be attending?

Lift Maintenance

The lifts had been taking turn to go out of service. The maintenance is scheduled to be over by this Saturday. I hope it will be done soon. It's really quite inconvenient to have only one lift functioning at a time especially when we need to go up since we can't use the stairs to get into our cluster.
